Engineered Wood Siding: Real Wood Character, Tougher Performance

Deep wood-grain texture and crisp lines, engineered to resist moisture, insects and impacts better than traditional lumber.

Engineered Wood Siding by RemodelPro

Engineered wood siding is made from wood strands or fibers bonded with resins and treated with waxes and protective additives, then finished with a factory primer or paint. The result looks and handles like real wood, but resists rot, termites and impact far better than untreated boards.

Because it's lighter than fiber cement and comes in long lengths, engineered wood installs with fewer seams. That means cleaner walls and fewer places for water to sneak in. It's also easy to work with on detailed homes with lots of corners, gables and trim.

Most engineered wood products are available prefinished in a range of colors or primed for custom painting. Either way, keeping the paint film intact and the cut edges sealed is what keeps it performing, and our installation details are built around that.

Why choose engineered wood siding

Authentic wood look

Deep cedar-style grain or smooth finishes that read as real wood from the street.

Impact resistant

Engineered to stand up to hail, stray balls and everyday bumps better than vinyl.

Treated against pests and rot

Protective treatments help resist fungal decay and termites.

Long lengths, fewer seams

Longer boards create cleaner walls and reduce the number of joints to seal.

Lighter weight

Easier to handle than fiber cement, which can mean a quicker install.

Prefinished or paintable

Choose a factory finish for long-lasting color or prime it for a custom shade.

Installation details that matter

Engineered wood performs best when moisture can't reach its raw edges. Our crews follow manufacturer guidelines for each product.

  • Proper clearance above roofs, decks, patios and soil
  • All field cuts sealed with primer or paint
  • Correct gapping and flashing at butt joints
  • Nails set flush, never overdriven
  • Kick-out flashing where roofs meet walls

Engineered Wood Siding

Frequently Asked Questions

How is engineered wood different from cedar?
Cedar is solid natural wood with natural oils; engineered wood is made from wood strands bonded with resins and treated for durability. Engineered wood is more uniform, less prone to splitting, and usually needs less maintenance.
Does engineered wood siding need painting?
Prefinished boards carry a long-lasting factory finish, but like any painted surface they'll eventually benefit from repainting. Keeping the finish in good condition is the best protection.
Is engineered wood good in wet climates?
Yes, when installed correctly with proper clearances, sealed edges and good flashing. Most past problems with composite siding came from poor detailing, which is why installation matters so much.
How does it compare to fiber cement?
Both are durable, paintable and wood-like. Engineered wood is lighter and more impact resistant; fiber cement is non-combustible and very stable. See our siding comparison for more detail.
Can engineered wood be used for trim?
Yes. Matching engineered wood trim, corners and fascia are available, giving the whole exterior a consistent look.
